Carrot Ironfoundersson and Angua von Überwald. I can’t say they’re my favourite characters from the Discworld series, because those are Death and his granddaughter Susan (especially in Hogfather). Though I’ve only read the series up to Carpe Jugulum, and everything can change later, but I really really doubt that their personality would differ, at least in the most basic principles.
He’s technically a dwarf. Was born as a human but raised by dwarves, and he’s as law-abiding and straight thinking as mortal men can’t be. He’s honest to a point where everyone thinks he has hidden motives. He says what he thinks, and presumes everyone does the same. He’s one of the main foundations to the Watch.
She’s a werewolf. On most days and nights she can control her ability to switch shapes, and hold herself back when smelling blood. She’s not eating people, and she’s a Watchman too (or, a Watchwoman… or maybe a Watchwerewolf, actully), respecting the law (though, for higher reasons, she’s more into bending some rules here and then…)
They’re totally different, yet they are in a deep and serious relationship. A relationship, which is doomed.
He takes her granted. She’s there, they love each other, that’s the way things should go. For him, everything has their own purpose and goal. She’s very often (maybe too often) astonished by that. Usually in a bad way. She just can’t understand and believe him. She grew up in Uberwald, land of zombies and werewolves and everything else. Cheating and bending the rules is a survive skill. They aren’t meant to be together. Yet…
It’s hard to condense the character development of so many stories. I guess you just have to read it yourself.
Still, why did I write this? Well, Angua and Carrot lives on our very earth. I just spent a couple of hours with them, and.. it wasn’t a pretty thing. IMPORTANT UPDATE: It started out really well, only went kinda sour at the very end.
…okay, the drinks are getting to take their tolls, so I’m gonna finish this tomorrow. To Be Continued
