Frozen 2.

Frozen eggMy fridge wants to kill me. It gave me a sign: a frozen egg. I mean, really. It’s on the lowest setting, fgs!

Well, since I’ve never seen an intact egg frozen, I’ve decided to have a closer look.

Frozen egg cut halfFirst thing to notice, the egg became solid and hard to break. I mean, I’ve dropped it from a height where a normal egg would have broken, and it was hardly scratched. I’ve removed the shell from one end, and it revealed a jelly-like material, which looked like some ribbed plastic thing, but it was also moist because the albumen hadn’t all go jelly. Then I’ve cut it into half, and it was still disgusting, also it tried to eat the knife, but with hard struggle I could free it from the yolk. It was simply disgusting, as the picture shows, it’s just it was even more disgusting.

It landed in the bin.

Melvin

Melvin UdallHe’s Melvin. Melvin Udall. I got him for my birthday from Dóra. I’ll take good care of him, and he’ll look out for my stuff at home while I’m away. He can play the piano, so it’s really unfortunate I don’t have a piano – and he wouldn’t play it in public.

Yeah.

Pancakes

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Yesterday was quite fun. I’ve finished the cleaning (well, I still have some smaller spots to do but the main thing’s over), and Szöszi* visited me in the afternoon. I served the food, she made some pancakes (they were delicious!), and some posset. We talked a lot, and generally, we had a lot of fun. Also we agreed if both of us wasn’t in love with someone else, we could probably make a nice couple – though I guess even if we weren’t fallen for someone else, we wouldn’t get together. Friends with a long past usually don’t.

Today I’ll meet Dóra, and after that probably Magdi too (before she’s off to Germany again), tomorrow I’ll visit a… job consulting place, where they may find some jobs for me, on wednesday Szöszi might come again, Thursday we visit Enkara and Redguy with Whitepony (still have to ask if they’re free though, his work might have some words about that), and on Friday I’m going to my parents’ place. Quite a busy week it will be.

Now I’m off to do the dishes – we’ve left quite a mess yesterday.

*Szöszi means Blondie. I have the exclusive prerogative to call her like that, because back in University I asked her if I might. She knows how I mean it, and she would find it offensive for anyone else calling her as such.

Coming Back to Life

“Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
Where were you when I was hurt and helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else’s words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun”

After coming home I was quite depressed. The days with Annelie were great – knowing they won’t come again anytime soon was almost like dying. For a week I bathed in self-pity and didn’t want to do anything at all. I didn’t want to live on – what’s the point without her?

Now the time has come to come back to life. We didn’t part with hatred, and I still mean what I meant, I still feel what I’ve felt when I went there. I could die for her, but that’s easy. I’ll take the harder path: I’ll live for her. I’ll live for the moment we’ll see each other again. I’ll live for the hope, that one day… but I won’t write it down, I won’t tell it out loud, for I don’t want to jinx it again. I know, you know, and I bet she knows too.

“Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of life and the seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pastime
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life”

So, the last three days I’ve spent with cleaning up the mess I was and the mess I was living in. There’s still things on the floor, but it’s because of I still don’t have wardrobes or shelves, only one for my clothes – and because I like to keep often used things handy. I decided to learn to cook (should have started years ago, but I never was in the need so I left it for things I thought were more important), and I already can make stew and potato noodles, tomorrow I’ll make some bolognese pasta. I visit many friends and ask friends to visit me. I should reinstall my OS soon as well, because it keeps doing strange hiccoughs lately. I have some catching up in programming and some other things as well, and I still have to find a job. I’m writing a long post about movies I’ve seen recently. I stopped thinking about what ifs, and start thinking about how it could turn out later.

“I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight..into the shining sun”
(Pink Floyd: Coming Back to Life)

Nie-chan, I’ll come.

Frozen

Monday, October 8th, 2007

My fridge is overcompensating. It’s on the lowest, and still it cools things as madmen. I mean, I’ve put a carton of milk on Saturday, and on Sunday it was full of ice. Not the fridge, the milk. I’ve put the rest of the potato noodles there (for I’ve only ate half the pot on Saturday) and the small waterdrops on the inside of the lid were frozen. And my fridge is way far from being empty anymore… What if it would go on full power?!

And the things in my fridge are not the only things which are frozen, but I guess I’ll be able to talk about this one after I melt out…

Don’t wait for May…

“Prepare for the long winter, my dear
For the winter will be long, I believe
Hide the warmth of your heart for me
I’ll keep the light of your eyes’ gaze

Gather everything that still remained
Burn the desires at slow pace
Turn the flame smaller, my dear
We’ll need the fire later, I’m afraid

Don’t wait for May, ’cause the winter approaches
Don’t wait for May, my sweetheart
Dress up warm when you go out to the streets
And when you’re cold, hug me in the bed

Be gentle, cheerful and quiet
With wise smile stand when they hurt
Be a river, and when the winter comes
Your armor would be hard and white as snow

Prepare for the winter, my dear,
For the winter will be long, I’m afraid…”

(Translation sucks, but might give a slight idea…)

Random Things

krumplistésztaToday I made some… “potato pasta”. I’m still bad at food names, I just can’t find any good dictionary for them. When I finished with the cooking I realised I have nothing to drink with it (milk or tea isn’t good) so I went to a shop nearby to buy some beer and some other stuff I needed. When I left the shop, I stopped to fill and light my pipe, and a suspicious looking guy came to me (his “friend” entering the shop meanwhile) and asked if I can change a five-hundred note. I suspected he was up to something so I told him I can’t (which, actually, was true). Now he asked if I could give him some change, I said I don’t have money on me, I’ve paid with a bankcard. He asked if I could buy him something to drink then – that was the point when I was glad I’d said no, and I knew he was up to something. I told him no, I can’t. He asked if I could lend him my cellphone so he can send an sms to his mother to bring him some money, and of course I said no. Now he tried to convince me, he would just call her fast and she would bring him some money, but I said I don’t have my phone on me (fortunately noone called me at that time). He became angry, went into the shop, but shouted back “Oh fuck! You should be stabbed in the back!!!”

Ridiculous.

Anyways, food was tasty, though next time I have to cut the onions smaller. Now I finish my beer and continue cleaning the place.

Potato pasta

Ingredients:
70 dkg potatoes
2-3 onions
30-35 dkg pasta (square type)
oil, salt, pepper (ground), paprika (red, ground)

Cut the potatoes into large pieces, cook it in salty water, then mash it. Boil the noodles in salty water too (add a little oil so it won’t stick together). Mince the onions, and fry it. Add paprika (lots of it), then mix with the mashed potatoes. Add salt, pepper, and stir the pasta into it.

Serve with pickled cucumber, or with sour cream.

Many thanks for Magdi!

(Edit: I was told that the square shaped ones are called pasta, and the long spagetti-like ones are noodles, so I corrected.)

Superstitions 2.

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Hmm… I might as well quote the whole, it kinda fits (and that’s not only my opinion):

  • The Monkey lover

Monkeys, of all the other signs, are the most promiscuous. They are flirtatious and like to seek the attention of others to get what they want. They are easily bored and must be stimulated intellectually as well as physically in order to stay around for extended periods of time. The Monkey can be clever, mischievous and manipulative when pursuing a love interest.

  • The Monkey as a parent

Monkey parents can be more like big brothers and sisters than actual parents. They retain their child-like qualities and therefore find it easier to relate to their children than other people might. Monkey parents don’t experience the generation gap other families might, partly because they remember what it is like to be a child. However, becoming a parent can cramp a Monkey’s style. They are not ones to stay inside, helping with homework on a Friday night. They would prefer to be out and about, and sometimes take their children with them if it’s appropriate.

  • The Monkey as a child

Young Monkeys are full of life. They are vivacious and colorful characters, curious about everything in life. They can’t stay still for long and concentrating is not always easy. In school they are sharp and intellectual, finding schoolwork easy to do. However, they can be the class clown, but not without consequences. Their antics can be disturbing to other children, which can land them in a heap of trouble.

  • The Monkey as a friend

Monkeys are sociable and lovable and make good friends. As they desire attention, they generally have a grand following of friends and acquaintances. No other animal finds communication and talking with others quite as easy as the Monkey does. As friends they will make you laugh when you want to cry. People want their Monkey friends around them because of their wit, sensitivity and effervescence.

  • The Monkey at home

Most Monkeys enjoy the activity offered by the city life rather than the quiet and tranquility offered in a more rural lifestyle. They crave being in the middle of things, enjoying life from a spectator’s view. They also enjoy people-watching and can amuse themselves for hours at a time by just watching the people walk by. They need a view, and their homes are usually filled with windows and picturesque drawings.

  • The Monkey on vacation

Monkey people love taking so much that they need to be surrounded by people constantly. For vacations they are drawn to the hot spots, nightclubs, bars and big city lights. A Monkey’s luck may encourage him to try his hand somewhere like Las Vegas or Atlantic City.

  • The Monkey at work

A Monkey’s good memory and his ability to adapt are two of his most prized possessions. He is intelligent and stoic, able to pick new trades up quickly and easily. Monkeys are also able to do all the work in half the time it takes someone else, but will charge you double what someone else would charge. As such, Monkeys generally take occupations in the world of finance, such as banking, stock exchange or accounting.

  • Well suited Monkey occupations

Scientists, Engineers, Bankers, Accountants, Sales representatives, Market traders, Jewelers, Air traffic controllers, Couriers, Film directors, Critics, Buyers, Dealers

  • Monkey health

Monkeys believe being sick is a waste of time. They don’t want to spend their days in bed. They want to experiencing the flavors of life. Usually, Monkeys are very healthy creatures, partly due to their active lifestyles. If they do experience illness, it is usually of the nervous or circulatory system.

  • Money and the Monkey

Monkeys are just as good as spending money as they are at making it. They can’t really save it because it burns a hole in their pockets. Occasionally though, Monkeys should put a little away today for an emergency tomorrow.

  • Famous Monkeys

Hugh Jackman, Lucy Liu, Tom Hanks, Tom Selleck, Bo Derek, Kylie Minogue, Julius Caesar, Leonardo da Vinci, Michael Douglas, Carrie Fisher, David Copperfield, Ian Fleming, Harry Houdini, Anthony Perkins, Diana Ross, Elizabeth Taylor
