Today I had my second serious lesson of cooking, from Magdi. The original plan was stew with noodles, but when we got to the butcher to buy the meat, the least bad looking were chicken legs, so we changed plans to chicken paprika. Which, surprisingly, contains mostly onions, chicken, and just a spoonful of grinded red paprika. Gina and Magdi both said it was delicious, and I liked it too – even though we forgot to add any salt to the chicken, but we added double salt to the noodles. Nevertheless, it was good, and it was my second own creation, if we don’t count scrambled eggs, omelettes and sandwiches.
I need some more utensils. My pots are crap and most doesn’t have lids, I only have two set of plates, etc. My birthday is in a month, but I have a feeling I’ll only get useless things. Girls, if you really want to give a man something they’ll like, give them useful things. I mean, we* like pretty things, as long as it has at least one useful and usable function (looking pretty doesn’t count). We’ll appreciate pretty, as long as it can cut, open, light, ignite, close, unscrew, bolt, saw, uncap, hit, dig, hold things, glue, fasten, melt, freeze, chill, warm, or carve as well. We like a knife with a nice picture on the handle, as long as it still has a firm grip and cuts what we need to cut. We like a carved box, as long as it won’t break into pieces when we pack it full with tools and throw it into the trunk. Sometimes we like art for itself as well, but it’s really hard to figure out a man’s real taste in art. And if we like you, we’ll be glad to receive your gifts, just never ever get sore if we still use our good old familiar stuff. It’s probably because we appreciate pretty and we don’t want them to get dirty or broken. Indubitably that’s the reason.
6 more days.
Update: at the office I was told that it wasn’t a paprika, only a stew because we never added any sour cream. Oh, and 5 more days.
